According to the Bible, love comes from God, and we can only love each other because he loved us first.
The Bible is basically a great tale of a relationship of love, namely the love relationship that exists between God and people. Therefore, several places in the Bible also use the wedding image as an image of the relationship between God and his people. God is compared to a faithful and loving husband who longs to be with his bride:
“Go and shout to Jerusalem: This is what the Lord says:
I remember your faithfulness when you were young,
Your love when you were bride.
You followed me in the desert,
In a country where no one sores “(Jeremiah’s Book 2.2).
Unfortunately, she is often unfaithful to other lovers:
“She was adorned with nose and necklace
And followed their lovers.
But I forgot her,
Says the Lord “(Hosea’s book 2.13).
Nevertheless, the husband does not reject his bride:
“I commit to you forever;
I betroth you with you
In justice and justice,
In goodness and mercy.
I betroth you with faith,
And you shall know the Lord “(Hosea’s book 2,19).
The wedding picture is taken on in the New Testament. The church thus awaits Christ in the image of a bridegroom (Matthew 25.1-13). In Ephesians, it is directly said that the relationship between man and woman is a reflection of the relationship between Christ and the church:
“Therefore, a man must leave his father and mother, and bind himself to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This contains a great secret – I am referring to Christ and the Church” (Ephesians 5: 31-32).
Relationship to God implies the claim to love almost both in the Old and New Testament. Thus, the relationship with God is not just a relationship between two, but rather a relationship between three. Thus, it is formulated in the Old Testament:
“You shall not take revenge on your countrymen, or carry nails to them: you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” I am the Lord! ” (Deuteronomy 19:18).
In the New Testament, it is made even more clear that one can not claim to love God if you do not love one’s fellow human beings. To love God is to love almost: “If anyone says,” I love God, “but hate his brother, he is a liar: for he who does not love his brother, as he has seen, can not love God as he Have not seen. And this commandment we have from him: He who loves God shall also love his brother “(1 John 4:20-21).
In the New Testament, the claim is made to love almost to the enemy as well: “Have heard that it has been said,” “You must love your neighbor and have your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for them, Who pursues you “(Matthew 5: 43-44).
The New Testament also emphasizes that the commandment to love God is almost the greatest commandment in the law (Mark 12:31). Yes, the whole law is even contained or even dissolved in the commandment: “No one else is guilty than loving one another: for one who loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments:” You must not break a marriage; You must not commit killing; Do not steal; You must not pray “and any other commandment is summarized in this commandment:” You must love your neighbor as yourself. “Love does not make much harm. Love is thus the fulness of the law.” (Romans 13, 8- 10).
In the high praise of love (1 Corinthians 13), Paul confirms the importance of love. Even faith is worthless without it: “If I speak with tongues of humans and angels, but do not have love, I am a resounding ore and a whining bell” (1 Corinthians 13,1-3).
In the John’s Letters and the Gospel of John, the declaration “God is love” (1 John 4:16) becomes paramount for understanding who God is. The identification of God and love is the whole cause of God’s deeds: “For thus God loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that every one who believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16) .
In the Gospel of John, the commandment is to love reasonably and in the love of God as expressed in Jesus’ mission and self-hesitation: Jesus loved first, therefore, the disciples should love each other: “A new commandment I give you: you shall love each other. Have loved you also love one another “(John 13:34).
The story of the love relationship between God and people is, as it appears, largely also a story about the love of human beings. Because God in Christ loves people, people also live in mutual love. Living according to the Bible, according to the Bible, living under the law of love, “bear the burden of each other, thus fulfilling the law of Christ” (Galatians 6,2).
